Every site has a unique context and character, and at the heart of every site and landscape project is the exploration and development of these unique attributes. Our award-winning team of designers captures the unique essence of each site, and proposes design solutions that celebrate the site and create spaces that meet the needs of our clients.
Master plans provide a framework for future development, and Crosby Hanna specializes in creating long-range plans that help our clients plan for the future. We create functional and dynamic master plans that consider short and long-term goals, and enable communities to phase implementation as budgets allow. Master planning projects include community growth and economic development projects, downtown corridor upgrades, regional park and trail network development, and urban park master plans.
We work with communities of all sizes to make positive changes to urban areas that promote community, create accessible spaces, help municipalities achieve their active transportation goals, and guide and encourage sustainable community growth. Urban design projects can include parks and plazas, pathway networks, and university and research campus design. We also assist municipalities with streetscape master planning and downtown revitalization strategies to affect long-term economic growth.
Our approach to design includes close collaboration between Planning, Engineering and Landscape professionals, engagement with community officials, administration, stakeholders, and policy review to support revitalization, master planning, or urban design projects.
Community involvement is an essential element of comprehensive planning and design. Community involvement is particularly important because community members provide insight into local conditions, public attitudes, needs, priorities, and other information that can only be collected through comprehensive engagement with the public. Strong community engagement processes also encourage community members to become champions of the plan, to provide the energy and support during a project’s implementation.
Community and stakeholder engagement services are tailored for each project and client, and may include public open houses, online or in-person surveys, design charrettes and workshops with stakeholder and user groups, and online or in-person presentations.
Crosby Hanna has prepared over one hundred Official Community Plans (OCP’s) and Zoning Bylaws (ZB’s) for urban, rural and resort municipalities across Saskatchewan. Our planning bylaw review and creation processes are continuously updated to address current issues and best practices, to ensure communities have appropriate governance in place to address changing needs. All OCPs prepared by Crosby Hanna have been adopted by the respective municipalities and approved by the province.
Crosby Hanna provides ongoing professional planning and advisory services for communities and municipalities of all sizes. Services include, but are not limited to, development and subdivision review, planning bylaw amendments, planning studies, development appeals, public consultation / hearings, and policy review to support municipal revitalization efforts.
