Crosby Hanna was engaged by Harvard Developments to design a publicly accessible plaza space in the heart of their mixed used development at the Grasslands commercial centre. This plaza was developed to be the aesthetic and functional heart of Grassland’s “main street.” The focus of the plaza are the backlit, metal and glass sculptures that are intended to recall prairie grasses, and echo the larger landscape context in which this project is located. The interior lights are programmed to make the sculptures appear to be moving with the wind. The plaza space accommodates small public events, as well as casual use by nearby retail operations. Seating walls, decorative concrete, benches, berms, turf and planting provide an appropriate setting to support the goals of the area.
