Crosby Hanna completed the design for a yard and playscape for the Child Care Centre at the First Nations University of Canada. The design respects and responds to the existing architecture, while envisioning a lively playspace where children can explore and thrive. This playspace includes a naturalized playground area for children aged 18 months to five years old, and provides exploratory learning opportunities in a safe, positive, and accessible environment. Plant material selections focused on species that would be appropriate for the shade heavy site, and included edible plant materials that the children could explore and enjoy. The scope of the project includes conceptual planning, detailed design, tender administration and contract administration.
