Location: Sturgeon Lake
Timeline: 2012

The Sturgeon Lake First Nation hired Crosby Hanna & Associates to prepare a Land Use Management Plan that would be suitable for directing future land use and development on their home Reserve as well as on Treaty Land Entitlement Reserves. The plan is intended to harmonize economic development interests with local customs, traditional values, and respect for Sturgeon Lake lands. The Elders of Sturgeon Lake helped guide the plan’s development throughout the process and provided a traditional land use map that identified historically and spiritually important places on Reserve 101 in both English and Cree. Based on local traditions, the project outlined processes for plan alterations, public consultation, and enforcement.
